Description of the attraction
The Uyuni salt flat is the largest in the world. It is a dry salt lake located in the south of the Altiplano plain. The interior of Uyuni is covered with thick table salt, which is 2 to 8 m thick. When the rainy season begins in Bolivia, the entire surface of the salt marsh is covered with a layer of water and looks like a huge mirror. The plane of the salt marsh is uniquely flat, under several meters of salt crust there is a lake with a depth of 2 to 20 meters. Salt water which, according to experts, contains 50 to 70% of the world's lithium reserves. There is also a lot of sodium chloride and magnesium chloride in the lake. In the very center of the salt marsh, you can see several islands, which in ancient times were the tops of volcanoes. Their structure is unusually fragile and similar to that of corals. That is, it consists of algae and fossils. In the area of the Uyuni salt marsh, there is usually always bright sunny weather, it rarely rains here. Therefore, for tourists, the sight of a huge flat salt lake against the backdrop of an endless desert plain and a blue cloudless sky always evokes a storm of delight and a lot of impressions.
