Description of the attraction

Andrew's Descent boasts a rich and interesting history hidden at every step, in every stone. Even in ancient times, it was the shortest road that connected Upper Grad with the handicraft and trade Podol. And its current name, the descent got in the 1740s, and was named in honor of St. Andrew the First-Called, who performed a miracle by placing a cross on the top of the hill and draining the sea that raged at its foot.

But not only this legend is associated with this wonderful place in Kiev. Also, Andreevsky Spusk is associated with the name of an outstanding writer - Mikhail Bulgakov. He lived in house number 13 in 1906-1913 and 1918-1919; and even today a plaque with the name of the great classic has been preserved on this house. Bulgakov loved Kiev with all his heart, it was in this city that the heroes of his immortal novels lived. A little higher, on the mountain itself, you can see the building of the original form. The house, which to the modern inhabitants of the metropolis resembles a real castle, was built in 1902 and was named "Castle of Richard the Lionheart". This is a stunningly romantic and sophisticated decoration of Kiev. In addition, the famous sculptor Balavensky and artists Dyadchenko, Makushenko, Krasitsky also lived in this old part of the city.

Andriyivsky Uzviz today is a real open-air museum. Art exhibitions and arts festivals are held here every spring. And since 1991 it has been the favorite and most popular place for celebrations on Independence Day and Kiev Day.
