Description of the attraction

The Maritime Museum is the pride of Kotor; it presents the richest maritime history of the Black Sea coast and the Boko-Kotor Bay. The museum is located in an old building that used to be the Grgurinsky Palace (in the 18th century). It belonged to the Grgurin family, who were very famous here. The architecture of the building belongs to the late Baroque.

The expositions of the museum are diverse and will be of interest to everyone who is not indifferent to the maritime history of not only Montenegro, but the whole world as a whole.

At the entrance to the museum, visitors are offered to see two weapons of the 18th century - they belong to the period when the city was actively attacked by pirates. In the museum, you can also see 6 engravings made of bronze and illustrating the greatest historical events. Among these events: the siege by the Algerian Bey of Cairo-Ed-Din, which was carried out with the help of Selim, the emperor of the Turks (also known as Barbarossa or "Red Beard").

In addition to general historical exhibits, in the museum you can view ship magazines, see models of various sea vessels and all kinds of sailboats. The remains of ships, ship furniture, marine accessories, compasses, flags and, of course, portraits of famous captains are also kept here. The archives of the museum carefully preserve a copy of the sea charter of Boka Kotorska.
