Description of the attraction
The Mikhail Bulgakov Museum is a state museum, the only one in Russia. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the writer.
The Memorial Museum of Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov was established in March 2007 by the decision of the Moscow City Government. It was decided to open a museum at the writer's first Moscow address - Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, 10, apartment 50. Bulgakov and his wife Tatyana lived at this address from 1921 to 1924, occupying a room in a communal apartment. It was in this apartment that Bulgakov wrote his works at night. The image of this apartment has become an integral part of the writer's work.
In 1990, the Mikhail Bulgakov Foundation was established. Its main goal was to open a museum of the writer in apartment no. 50. "Bad apartment" becomes a real museum, where the unique atmosphere of the place is preserved. The museum is open to visitors and is a place of pilgrimage for admirers of Bulgakov's work.
Different eras have come into contact in the museum: the "Soviet period" and "pre-October life in Russia." The authors of the exposition managed to convey the feeling of nostalgia for that "pre-October" life that permeates Bulgakov's books. The versatility of the writer's creativity magically unites these eras.
The exposition of the museum is organized thanks to the collections of Bulgakov's nieces donated to Moscow. In 2010, the museum's exposition was replenished with Bulgakov's belongings from his last apartment in Nashchokinskiy lane.
The exposition consists of eight rooms. There are permanent exhibitions: "Bulgakov's First Study", "Blue Study", "Living Room", "Communal Kitchen", "Bad Staircase", "Pigit's House", etc. The corridor is given over to temporary exhibitions of photographs, paintings, sculptures, graphics, books and installations.
