Description of the attraction
Agnondas is a small resort town on the southern coast of one of the greenest Greek islands - Skopelos. It is located in a picturesque cozy bay about 7-8 km from the capital of the island of the same name and has its own port.
According to local legend, the port got its name in honor of the native of Skopelos - Agnondas, who became in 569 BC. champion of the Olympic Games. The ship on which the champion returned with triumph to his homeland sailed to the harbor of modern Agnondas, in connection with which, subsequently, this place got its name.
Over the past decades, from a small fishing village, Agnondas has developed into a very popular resort with a well-developed tourist infrastructure. Today Agnondas is charming white houses with red tiled roofs immersed in greenery, a picturesque promenade with fishing boats and boats swaying on the waves, and of course, many cozy restaurants, taverns and cafes where you can have a great rest and taste traditional local cuisine. The magnificent pebble beach of Agnondas is rightfully considered one of the best on the island.
The stunning landscapes of Agnondas and its surroundings are ideal for long walks. You can also rent a boat or speedboat and take a fascinating boat trip along the coast of Skopelos.
Today, Agnondas is an alternative harbor for ferries and passenger ships (in case of the closure of the main port of the island in the city of Skopelos due to bad weather conditions). Agnondas is also an important transport hub on the island and has bus connections to almost all of Skopelos' settlements.
