Description of the attraction
Myrtyes is a pretty seaside town on the west coast of the Greek island of Kalymnos. It is located about 8 km north-west of the administrative center of the island of Potia and is one of the most popular resort centers of Kalymnos. The settlement got its name because of the abundant myrtle trees growing in its vicinity.
Surrounded by picturesque green hills, Myrtyes is a traditional Greek settlement with typical architecture of the region, narrow streets, a small cozy harbor and a genuine atmosphere of cordiality and hospitality of the locals. The magnificent natural landscapes and delightful landscapes of Myrtyes, an excellent pebble beach, a lot of entertainment and a well-developed infrastructure attract many tourists here every year. In the local taverns and restaurants, you can relax while enjoying traditional Greek cuisine. Fans of an active evening pastime will not be disappointed either.
Directly opposite the settlement, at a distance of about 700 m, lies the small rocky islet of Telendos, which was once one with the island of Kalymnos. This is an ideal place for those wishing to relax in silence, away from the noisy crowds of tourists. Telendos is especially popular with fans of mountaineering. You can get to the island from the port of Myrtyes by a pleasure boat. At the port, you can also rent a boat and go on an exciting sailing trip along the coast of Kalymnos.
Given the close proximity to the capital of the island, while resting in Myrtyes, you can visit the sights of Potia. Near Myrtyes is another popular tourist center of Kalymnos - the resort town of Missouri, as well as the excellent sandy beach - Melitsahas.
