Description of the attraction
At the foot of Bjelasica, where the Tara River begins, the town of Kolasin is located. It is considered the youngest city of Montenegro against the background of others. Despite this fact, the history of the city is imbued with heroism and the spirit of resistance - Kolasin was occupied by the Turks for a long time.
The city, as it can be seen today, was originally only the encirclement of a guard fortress belonging to the Turks. Then, in the middle of the 17th century, the city got its name, which goes back to the Turkish "kolazi" - the commander in charge of the military garrison. The city was liberated from the Turks only at the end of the 19th century, after which the emigration of Muslims followed.
It is these historical milestones that are reflected in the expositions of the Kolashin Museum of Local Lore. Here, tourists and locals are invited to learn about the history of the city, about the most important transformations that it has gone through during its albeit short, but tragic history. Visitors can view the rich ethnographic, historical and artistic collections.
Today the city is also a popular ski resort in Montenegro; ecological and ski tourism is actively developing here. Kolasin receives foreign investments, which are used for the construction of new hotels and establishments, as well as for other tourist facilities. At the height of the tourist season, the city looks very lively with restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
