Description of the attraction

The Church of Peter and Paul in Cheremukhovo is located in the southwestern part of the city of Kurgan. The distance from the city center to the Cheremukhovo microdistrict is 15 km.

The church in honor of the holy foremost apostles Peter and Paul in the village was built in 1705. According to information from 1750, the church already had a side-chapel in the name of the Icon of the Sign of the Mother of God. However, by the end of the 1770s. the temple was badly dilapidated and was replaced by another. A new wooden church was built in 1780 with the help of parishioners and consecrated in February of the same year. The church had two thrones. The first side-altar is the main one, in honor of the Apostles Peter and Paul, the second - in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

By the early 1830s. the wooden church in the village of Cheremukhovo began to decline and could no longer accommodate all the parishioners. As a result, it was decided to build a more spacious stone church. For its construction, they chose a project in the style of classicism, the author of which was the architect Praman.

The construction of a new church with a refectory and a bell tower was completed in 1832-1837. Its solemn consecration took place in June 1837. The temple has a five-tiered stone bell tower, covered with iron, with a gilded head and a shining cross. As in the former church, there are two thrones: in the name of the Holy Primate Apostles Peter and Paul - the main summer one, and in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God - the winter one.

The iconostases in the temple were wooden, blue, the royal doors were latticed and gilded. Above the royal doors was the icon of the Holy Spirit, and a little higher - the plot of the Last Supper. At the top of the three-tiered iconostasis was the image of the Resurrection of Christ, and on the high place one could see the image of the Almighty. In the cold aisle of the temple there was an icon of the Kazan Most Holy Theotokos. This icon appeared in the church in 1887 due to the zeal of the Kurgan merchants. She was discharged by P. D. Smolin. Today this icon is kept in the Holy Spiritual Church in the village of Smolino.

The Church of Peter and Paul was active until 1932, in 1935 it was closed. Afterwards, the church was used as a grain warehouse. As a result, all church utensils, iconostases and bells were lost. In October 1989, the church was handed over to the community of Orthodox believers.
