Description of the attraction
The Protestant Parish of Schladming was founded in 1782. Currently, the Lutheran community in Schladming has about 3,800 members. For nearly 80 years, parishioners gathered for divine services in private homes. They received their church of Saints Peter and Paul only in the middle of the 19th century. Interestingly, its construction began with the tower. It was erected in 1852. In July 1856, when the bell tower was ready, Johann Brueckner described the course of its construction and hid his notes in a copper box, which was walled up in the foundation of the nave.
Seven years after the start of construction of the tower, in 1859, the foundation stone of the church was laid. The construction of the temple continued until 1862. The project of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul was developed by the architect Karl Gansenberger. This sacred building can simultaneously accommodate up to a thousand people. This makes the local church of Saints Peter and Paul the largest evangelical church in Styria.
Once in the church of Saints Peter and Paul, it is worth seeing the surviving four copper panels stored here - all that remains of the Protestant triptych, consisting of many details. The triptych was created in 1570. Saints Peter and Paul are depicted on two narrow panels, and the Crucifixion and the tempting serpent are depicted on wider panels.
The organ in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul was created by Ludwig Moracher, a member of the famous Moracher family, famous for creating amazing musical instruments.
The majestic, magnificent altar of the temple dates back to 1570.
