Description of the attraction
Roseto degli Abruzzi is a small picturesque town located between two rivers - Tordino and Vomano in the province of Teramo. It is a popular seaside resort on the Adriatic coast with a population of about 24 thousand people. In recent decades, there has been a steady growth of the local economy associated with the development of tourism. This is especially noticeable in neighborhoods such as Borsacchio, Campo a Mare and Voltarrosto. Very often the coast of Roseto is called Lido delle Rose - Beach of Roses. And recently, the local 10-kilometer beach received the prestigious "Blue Flag" - a distinction that confirms the purity of the local waters.
Initially, the city was called Rosburgo, but during the First World War, this name became very unpopular, especially in military circles, due to the fact that it sounded in the Austrian manner - the worst enemy of Italy in that war. In 1927, the city was officially renamed Roseto degli Abruzzi. In part, this is due to the sheer number and variety of roses and oleanders that grow in abundance throughout.
City attractions include the Pinacoteca Comunale, which displays works by local artists, ceramics and furniture artisans. Among the religious buildings, the churches of Santissima Annunziata and Santa Maria Assunta and the Russicum chapel stand out. All three are notable for their beautiful architecture and works of art stored inside, and the Russicum chapel is also notable for being Orthodox, not Catholic.
Also in Roseto degli Abruzzi there is an Olympic-sized swimming pool, several tennis courts, a huge sports stadium for 4500 spectators, soccer and bocce fields (for marksmanship).
