Description of the attraction

The Prokletije mountain range is one of the least explored and rather mysterious sights in Montenegro. It is located on the border with Albania, at a sufficient distance from such resort areas as Budva, Petrovac, Kotor, and Tivat. The height is not very high - about 2.5 km. The array forms are striking in their quirkiness and variety. A special microclimate is maintained in Prokletia, which is a consequence of the fact that there is snow in its gorges even on the hottest summer days.

The name of this place involuntarily makes you think of bizarre associations in the fantasy style: the mountains of Damnation, keeping in their depths mystical treasures that only a select few can find. These peaks can only be conquered by the most courageous of the brave.

This massif is the most inaccessible mountainous region in all of Europe. It is located in the south of the Dinaric Highlands and stretches for 100 kilometers. Among the main constituent rocks, limestones, shales and dolomites are distinguished, which, under the influence of rivers, dissolve and form various bizarre forms.

The main peak is Jezerca - the height of 2691 m. In addition to it, the peaks Djaravica (2556 m - is the highest point in Kosovo) and Radokhin (2570 m) stand out. Beech, oak and coniferous forests grow in the lower part of the slopes of the massif, and picturesque and bright mountain meadows begin at a level of 1800 meters.

The depth of the Prokletije massif hides many real natural treasures: amazing glacial lakes, stunning landscapes, rushing waterfalls that carry their waters among the stone walls, and transparent springs.

The main attraction of this whole region is Lake Plavskoe, as well as the Orthodox monastery of Vysokie Dechany, which stores ancient unique frescoes. The monastery is located on the territory of Kosovo at the foot of the massif. Plavsko Lake is the largest among all glacial lakes in Montenegro. It lies at an altitude of 907 m. Today this reservoir is considered one of the most popular places for ecotourism, as well as a real Mecca for fans of fishing.

The Prokletie massif, in addition to all of the above, is also a real paradise for everyone who really appreciates outdoor activities. Especially for lovers of mountaineering and paragliding who come to Montenegro for an extreme vacation. In 2010, the massif was given the status of the National Park of Montenegro.
