Description of the attraction

The Snow Range Trout Farm is just an hour's drive from Hobart in the crystal clear waters of the Denison River. This is one of the most popular holiday destinations among residents of the surrounding towns and villages and a real pilgrimage site for avid fishermen.

The fishing ponds cover 160 hectares in southwestern Tasmania in the charming Huon Valley. Here you can try your luck fishing for trout or salmon. The ponds of various sizes are home to rainbow and lake trout, as well as Atlantic salmon. From morning to evening, visitors compete in their fishing skills. There are also trout and salmon hatcheries on the territory of the farm, which produce about a million salmon eggs and about 100 thousand trout eggs per year.

School trips like to come here. Younger students feed the fish and get a close-up view of it. For older students, there is an opportunity to learn in practice about monitoring water quality and various stages of the life cycle of fish, breeding fish and protecting wild populations. Each schoolchild, if desired, can try to catch fish with a fishing rod.
