Description of the attraction
One of the attractions of the city of Kryvyi Rih is the botanical garden - this is a state research institution, which is part of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden is located in the north of the city in the Damansky microdistrict and covers an area of 52 hectares. It is the only institution in the region that conducts various scientific research on the introduction of new plant varieties that are promising for improving the environment.
The founder and creator of the Krivoy Rog Botanical Garden was Professor Evgeny Nikolaevich Kondratyuk. His lifelong dream was to create botanical gardens in all industrial regions. He was one of those who realized the full need for the development of industrial botany.
By the decision of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in Krivoy Rog in December 1972, a strong point of the Donetsk Botanical Garden was created. More than 52 hectares of land were allocated for this project in 1980. Later, according to the order of the same Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR dated June 25, 1981 "On the founding of the Krivoy Rog branch of the Donetsk Botanical Garden", work began on its creation. The branch was opened in 1989. In May 1992, the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine adopted a resolution on the establishment on the basis of the Kryvyi Rih branch of the Donetsk Botanical Garden, already an independent institution in the system of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine - the Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden.
The botanical garden includes departments for the introduction and acclimatization of plants, physiology of biology of soils and plants, optimization of technogenic landscapes and natural flora. The pride of the Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden is its collection fund, which includes over 3500 species of flowers, trees and shrubs, which are classified as the National Treasure of Ukraine.
