Description of the attraction
Among the many beautiful beaches of the Greek island of Tilos, the beach of Agios Antonios certainly deserves special attention, located on the northern coast of the island in a picturesque natural bay next to the fishing village of the same name and just a few kilometers from the administrative center of the island - Megalo Chorye. This place got its name from the tiny chapel of St. Anthony located here. Once upon a time, its walls were decorated with beautiful old frescoes, but, unfortunately, they were almost completely destroyed during the Second World War.
Agios Antonios beach is a sand and pebble beach where you will not find the usual sun loungers and sun umbrellas, but you will not find crowds of tourists here, so this corner of Tilos is perfect for those who like to relax away from excessive crowds. However, Tilos is never too crowded, this island seems to have been created for a measured and secluded relaxation in complete harmony with oneself and nature.
You can stop in Megalo Horia - a small picturesque town with pretty white houses, narrow winding streets, walking along which will bring you a lot of pleasure, and beautiful churches (Taxiarhis, Agia Triada, etc.), located at the foot of the steep rocky hill of Agios Stefanos. on top of which lie the ruins of a medieval fortress, built by the knights of the Order of St. John in the 15th century. True, accommodation can be found in Agios Antonios, but it is worth considering that the choice is very small, and you need to take care of booking in advance.
