Description of the attraction
Directly opposite the Regina Building is the 1928 Art Deco Perez-Samanillo House. Its architect was also Andrés Luna de San Pedro. This simple yet elegant 6-storey building is located on the historic Escolta Street. It was once called Manila's Most Outstanding Business Building. Today it is known as the First United Building.
The attraction of the main entrance gate of the house is its original zigzag pattern, and on the facade you can see triangles and squares intersected with stylized floral ornaments. Today the building is painted white, but judging by old photographs, it was once coral pink. Interestingly, the building has an elevator, which, instead of the numbers showing the floor number, has a dial similar to those found in American buildings built during the same period.
