Description of the attraction

The Zamkovy (Turkish) bridge is one of the main visiting cards of Kamyanets-Podolsky. It is with his help that the Old Fortress is connected to the city. In principle, the fortress was erected for this purpose, in order to protect this bridge.

The bridge is truly unique. There is still debate about how old he is. So, according to the Plamenetsky architects, who managed to see the contours of the bridge on the famous Roman column of the Emperor Trajan, the bridge was built by the Romans. However, most historians agree that the bridge first appeared here much later - in the XIV century and has been reconstructed several times since then. The most grandiose reconstruction of the bridge was carried out in the second half of the 17th century by the Turks who then owned the city, thanks to which the bridge got its second name. It was under the Turks that the bridge received its modern appearance, and later reconstructions did not radically affect it.

But, despite the fact that in fact the Castle Bridge has been improved almost in every century, nevertheless, it is the oldest bridge on the territory of Ukraine. However, this is not the only record set by this structure. For example, the Turkish bridge is the only one in the world that is not installed across the course of the Smotrich River, but … along, therefore it connects two right banks, and not left with right, like any other. Another attraction of the Castle Bridge, albeit tragic, is that it was on it that the son of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, Yuri, was killed.

Tourists who first come to the Castle Bridge get a unique experience, as it offers a wonderful view of both the Castle (Old and New) and its surroundings, including such districts of the city as Karvasary, Polish and Russian farms, as well as part of the fortifications that defended the peninsula on which the Old Town is located.
