Description of the attraction

The first (old) building of the Turkish Parliament was built in 1915 and is located in the Ulus region (the old part of Ankara). The building was built by Turkish architect Salim Bey. The building was made in the style of Turkish architecture, during the construction of which the stone "Andesite", or as it is called, the Ankara stone, was used. The building served not only as the seat of the People's Party, but also as a Legal Training Center from 1920 to 1924.

The building was transferred to the Ministry of Education in 1952, and in 1957 it was converted into a museum. The doors of the museum were opened to visitors on April 23, 1961. In preparation for the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Ataturk in 1981, the museum was renovated.

The new (second) building of the Turkish Parliament was built by the architect Vedat Tek in 1923, and served as the premises of the People's Party, later transferred to the country's parliament. Some work was done to improve the architecture, and in 1924 it was handed over to the leadership of the parliament.

Today, the second building of the Turkish Parliament serves as a museum. There is a large staircase near the entrance. The floor is decorated with ornaments reflecting the characteristics of the Seljuk and Ottoman periods.

Museum visitors can familiarize themselves with such important events in Turkish history as: transformations in jurisprudence, the adoption of the international calendar, changes in clothing traditions, the adoption of a new alphabet, the adoption of international measures of weight and length, the law on the surname, and you can also get acquainted with the speech of Ataturk in honor of decades of the Republic. In addition, you can familiarize yourself with the laws adopted in the field of the railway department, the air force, the economy, etc.

On the ground floor of the building, visitors can visit the Assembly Hall of the Parliament. This room has seen many leaders of the people on its platform and has witnessed many historic decisions and speeches. At the entrance to the hall, there is a central stand, from which to the right and to the left are the balconies of the president and representatives of other countries. Behind are the loggias of the press and listeners. The large hall is of particular interest. The ceiling of the hall, painted with star motifs, is made of wood. There are tiles in the room reflecting the traditions of the decorative arts of Turkic architecture. The premises of the reception of the President of the country are located on the second floor.
