Description of the attraction

Samara is the birthplace of Russian beer, and the plant producing the world-famous Zhigulevskoye is one of the oldest and most successful enterprises in Russia.

The building of the plant, built by Alfred von Wakan in 1881 on the banks of the Volga next to the picturesque Zhiguli mountains and which has come down to us unchanged, is considered a masterpiece of industrial architecture in the eclectic style. The industrial facilities of this Austrian citizen, designed in an exquisite architectural style, adorn the city from the Volga side, reminiscent of a medieval German castle.

The birthday of Zhigulevsky beer falls on February 23, 1881, when the first batch of the foamy drink was released from the brewery - then still under the name "Venskoye". The highest quality and affordable price by 1913 raised the plant to a number of the best brewers in Russia, whose supplies by that time went far beyond the borders of the state. The Holy of Holies of every Samarans has repeatedly received the highest awards at international exhibitions in London, Paris and Rome.

The second birth of brewing production can be considered 1934, when the dilapidated and decayed plant after the revolution was leased for 15 years to the son of the founder Alfred von Wakano - Lotan. In the same year, the "bourgeois" name of the beloved "Vienna" was changed to "Zhigulevskoye", which later became the most widespread Soviet brand.

The plant building is considered a monument of industrial architecture of federal significance and the main historical landmark and pride of the city of Samara.
