Description of the attraction
The Mak Brewery in Tromsø is the northernmost brewery in the world. Ludwig Mack founded his family business in the fall of 1877. Like his father, he was educated as a baker and pastry chef. At the age of 35, Ludwig founded a brewery, the construction of which cost him a large sum for those times - 72,000 crowns, which was a very daring project. However, Ludwig was confident of success and was not mistaken: the brewery soon became the largest industrial enterprise in the city.
During the first few years, the brewery did not even have its own retail outlet, the products were distributed through intermediaries. Ludwig managed to open the Mac brand store only in the 1890s. After a while, the name Mac became known almost throughout the country.
On April 9, 1939, most of the plant was destroyed by fire, which led to a drop in production. After some time, the buildings were rebuilt, a comprehensive modernization and reconstruction was carried out, as a result of which the beer production increased again.
The assortment of the brewery's products is of great variety and is constantly expanding. Today, Mac Brewery produces a total of 16 beers and 13 soft drinks and mineral water. In 2002 the plant celebrated its 125th anniversary. Much has changed over time, but the quality remains high.
During the excursion, visitors will get acquainted with the process of making drinks according to old traditional recipes, see special equipment and, of course, will be able to taste some of the world's most famous types of beer.
