Description of the attraction
Almenland Nature Park was founded in 2006. On its territory there are 125 alpine meadows, which makes it unique. Local residents poetically call it “the garden of Austria”. In the local Alpine pastures, you can see cows, calves, bulls, horses belonging to local farmers. All of them peacefully nibble on the juicy grass and willingly pose for tourists.
The beauty of the natural park can be appreciated at its true worth during the warm season. Most travelers come here in spring, summer and autumn. During this period, the Almenland Nature Park offers its visitors, hikers and sports enthusiasts, a wide range of activities. The park has routes of various difficulty levels. Guests can test their endurance by walking the Glacier to Wine Trail, which starts at the Dachstein Glacier and leads to the Wine Valley. A walk along the Swamp Trail, where an observation tower is installed, is considered quite curious and informative. If you find yourself here in July, you can see the blooming of orchids right in the swamps.
However, the natural park is also open to tourists in winter. Everyone is given snowshoes, which make it so easy to move around the snow-covered meadows. There are also cross-country ski trails, which are laid through the most beautiful terrain.
Among the attractions of the Almenland Park, the "Dragon Cave" should be especially noted. It was inhabited 50 thousand years ago. The bones of a cave bear were found here. The cave was chosen by bats for winter quarters.
The reserve has many easily accessible natural monuments: canyons, ponds, waterfalls, streams, peat bogs and much more.
