Description of the attraction
The Museum of the Liberation Struggle in Ivano-Frankovsk tells about the liberation struggle of the inhabitants of the Carpathian region in the period of the XIX-XX centuries. The museum is housed in an Art Nouveau building and has four exhibitions. Here are presented material and documentary materials that cover the course of the liberation struggle and state formation in Ukraine.
The first hall of the exposition is dedicated to the history of the struggle of the Galician princes against foreign invaders, it also highlights the history of the emergence of the liberation movement - "opryshka". The exposition did not bypass the role played by the Greek Catholic Church in preserving the identity of Ukraine. In the second hall of the exposition, visitors can get acquainted with the history of the creation of the Galician Army, namely the OSS Legion. The third hall is a collection of evidence of the UPA's struggle against the Stalinist regime. Here you can see a unique collection of propaganda leaflets and magazines of those times, photographs, weapons. A considerable part of the exhibition is occupied by testimonies of the hard everyday life of political prisoners. Household items, maps of prisons, photographs, documents and much more opens the curtain of secrecy over the terrible events that took place in those days.
