Description of the attraction

The Annunciation Church is one of the oldest wooden churches in Ukraine, located in the suburbs of the city of Kosovo, in the village of Stary Kosiv.

The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded in the village of Verboets sometime at the end of the 16th century, but not earlier than 1579. At that time there was still no separate village of Verbovets, it was listed as the village of Koshev and the town of Koshev, in which there was one priest each.

In 1699, a new church was built on the site that had long been consecrated by the local priest, Father Nikorak. The newly erected temple had three domes and was sheathed with shingles. The auditor of 1745 noted: "that the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, although old, does not look bad, that the truth requires repair of the roof, for which eight thousand shingles have already been allocated, which were bought in Wallachia."

In 1850, residents of the two villages of Stary Kosov and Verbovets, with the joint efforts of the entire community, raised money and hired master I. Lavruk, who, with the help of residents, and also under the leadership of priest I. Valyavsky, built the temple within a year. In 1853, the current new church was erected.

Today the Annunciation Church is almost completely covered with tin, which does not allow to fully appreciate all the skills of the architects.
