Description of the attraction

The Flat House, or as it is also called, Card House, Witch House or the House of Shadows, is another wonderful landmark of Odessa. The house is located on Vorontsovskaya Street, 4. At first glance, this building is no different from its counterparts, but if you look at the house from a slightly different angle, you immediately understand why it was called “flat”. The fact is that the house looks as if it had only a front façade and no walls in the back. Many tourists walk around the house and try to understand what kind of building it is. And the mystery is that the back walls of the house are erected at an angle, and looking at it from the side, an optical illusion is created that the house is absolutely flat. Today it is a place often visited by tourists, however, during the construction of the Flat House, no one thought that after centuries thousands of people would come to see it.

Today it is not known exactly who and when built this amazing house. Presumably, it was built in the thirties of the XIX century. And there are several reasons for such an original form today. The first of them says that the house began to be built during the active development of the street, but there was not enough money to complete it, and the architect decided to connect the two side walls in such a way that the house resembled a triangle from above. And they managed to save money on the construction of the fourth wall. According to another version, during the construction of the house, one dishonest contractor deceived the construction manager, and as a result, there was simply not enough material to build all the walls. Well, the most realistic version says that the allocated land was not enough for the construction of a full-fledged house, but it was impossible to deviate from the street development plan. Therefore, the house turned out to be so original. But in any case, this building deserves to take a look at it at least once.

Here is complete information about the house, without copying the delusional and unprofessional text about the triangularity of the house, the drunkenness of architects and the lack of money.
