Description of the attraction

The Teixera Lopis Museum is located in the center of the satellite town of Porto Vila Nova de Gaia. The building was built in 1895 under the direction of the sculptor himself, Antonio Teixera Lopis, and served as his home and studio.

Today, this museum exhibits many valuable works of art and a very interesting collection of bronze and marble sculptures by masters of the twentieth century, among which there are plaster models or, as they are also called working models, made by one of the greatest sculptors of Portugal, Teixera Lopis. Also among the exhibits of the museum is a rich collection of art deco, decorative art of the first half of the 20th century - pieces of furniture, ceramics, glass and gold. In addition, museum guests are offered to see the works of Portuguese artists such as Alfredo Keil, Antonio Carneiro, Antonio Ramallo, Aurelia de Sousa, Silva Porto, Viera Lusitano and others.

The permanent exhibition features works by the sculptor, painter and writer Diogo de Macedo. Diogo de Macedo was also fond of collecting works of art. The museum exhibits items from his collection, among which there are works by famous modernists such as Abel Manta, Almada Negreiros, Amadeo de Sousa-Cardoso and others.

It should be noted that Vila Nova de Gaia is considered the birthplace of Portuguese port, because it is in it that the famous wine cellars with the famous Portuguese port are located.
