Description of the attraction
Museum-attraction "Horrors of St. Petersburg" was opened in 2008. This is an absolutely new museum with an unusual approach to the exposition, there is no such museum in any other country in Europe. The museum does not have the usual exhibits, which are described by the excursion guide when examining the museum. The visitor to the "Horrors of Petersburg" becomes an eyewitness to the play, in which the actors participate, but at the same time he himself, as it were, finds himself in a completely different world, experiences and experiences incredible emotions from contact with chilling fear and horror. Therefore, the most correct name for this attraction is the historical interactive theatrical performance "The Horrors of St. Petersburg"
The show takes place on an area of 1300 square meters in thirteen rooms of the Planet Neptune shopping center. The attraction can receive 20 visitors every 15 minutes. It is dark and damp here, with centuries-old cobwebs and skeletons on the walls. Here and there groans of prisoners, the squeak of rats, the clang of chains and the creak of prison doors are heard, bringing horror to the visitors. The work involves both live artists and animatronics (moving pneumatic figures with wax heads), modern light, animation, sound special effects, a mirror maze, and moving platforms. Theatrical artists of St. Petersburg were involved in the creation of the scenery and costumes. The technical part of the project was implemented by foreign craftsmen.
It took about two years to create the show. The Horrors of Petersburg is a kind of chronicle of dramatic, literary and tragically ominous Petersburg. The horror rooms are shared by all famous historical and literary characters: Raskolnikov. Rasputin, Peter the Great, Princess Tarakanova, Paul I, Tchaikovsky and others. All of them are united by only one theme - the theme of death.
Thanks to special effects, it becomes possible to look into the bedroom of Emperor Paul and witness his mysterious death. The most courageous can meet with the Queen of Spades and see with their own eyes how the student Rodion Raskolnikov inflicts a ruthless reprisal on the old woman-pawnbroker. And to whom these actions will seem completely fearless, the organizers of the museum offer a walk through the prison dungeon, a conversation with the death mask of Peter the Great in a mirror maze and a meeting with a ghost guard. At the end of the excursion, visitors find themselves in the old Petrograd boiler room, where the corpse of Grigory Rasputin, the "mystical" courtier, was burned. Here sightseers become eyewitnesses of a terrifying and unforgettable spectacle - the coffin lid opens with a creak, from where a man with a beard rises like a revived dead man. The apotheosis of the performance is the moment when the actor who plays Grigory Rasputin takes off his mask.
All the actions of the performance unfold in recreational conditions, the entourage of which is as close as possible to the bygone era, creating a sense of the reality of the events taking place here. The entire atmosphere is permeated with mystery and enigma, this is a real presentation with video and stereo effects, golographic projections, fantastic play of reflections, light and shadow, moving wax figures. The reality of what is happening is emphasized by the baskets scattered everywhere with bloodied or severed hands, feet, and heads. With the help of optical effects, bright flashes of flame, moving asphalt, water flows, mirror labyrinths are created.
There is an age limit to visit The Horrors of St. Petersburg - the museum is open to visitors aged at least 14 years. Upon reaching this age, not only the psyche becomes stable, but the children are already familiar with most of the characters participating in the exhibition.
For adults, "The Horrors of St. Petersburg" is an opportunity to penetrate into a particular literary work or historical epoch, in order to feel the atmosphere of the time or the mastery of the writer from the inside, when the power of the author's word is amplified at times. When you go out to the street from this dungeon of horrors, filled with sunlight and shine of living colors and sounds, you begin to feel and appreciate the world around you, understand how important family warmth, participation and support of relatives and friends are.
