Description of the attraction
Lake Grundlsee is part of the large mountainous region of the Salzkammergut and is located in the Austrian federal state of Styria. It is located about 18 kilometers from another famous local landmark, the city of Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lake itself is bordered in the north by a mountain range known as the Dead Mountains, and in the east there are neighboring, smaller lakes. Lake Grundlsee itself is the largest in the whole of Styria - its area exceeds 4 square kilometers. The maximum depth of the lake is 64 meters, but it depends on the change of seasons - in summer it dries up a lot, and in autumn and spring it is filled with water again due to rains and melting snow. In winter, the lake is completely covered with ice.
It is worth noting that Lake Grundlsee is alpine, the maximum height above sea level exceeds 700 meters. Another distinguishing characteristic is the high quality of the water, it is even drinkable. Therefore, the use of machinery and vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine is prohibited here. It is known that in the warmer months of the year, the water temperature in the lake rises to 25 degrees.
On the lake itself there are pleasure boats powered by electricity, as well as a variety of barges. Lake Grundlsee is also popular with surfers and sailors and rowers. A variety of yacht clubs, surfing and rowing courses were equipped along the shores of the lake. At the same time, many boats can be rented and enjoy a romantic walk around the lake and admire the mountain scenery.
