Description of the attraction

Neusiedlersee - Seewinkel is a national park on the border of Hungary and Austria. The park is located in the Austrian Burgenland and the Hungarian districts of Gyor Bihar and Vas. In 2001, the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The park was founded in 1993 by Austria, and in 1991 Hungary declared part of its lands a national park, which was named Fertö-Hanság Nemzet. The Neusiedler See-Seewinkel is the first park in Austria that is located on the territory of several countries at once. The territorial structure of Neusiedpersee-Seewinkel includes seven administrative regions of Austria: Andau, Illmitz, Apetlon, Weide nam See, Podersdorf, Tadten and Neusiedl am See. Part of the land is owned; in total, the park has about 1200 land owners.

Part of the lands of the National Park is not used in any way at the present time. The rest of the land, on the contrary, is a cultural park and is open to tourists. The Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel has many different landscapes: swamps, steppes, fields and reed beds, salt lakes. During the period of the seasonal migration of birds, the feathered population in the reserve becomes several times larger, which attracts a large number of tourists.
