Turkey is a unique country. It is located at the junction of two parts of the world - Asia and Europe. Most of Turkey's territory belongs to Asia, and only a small area on the Balkan Peninsula is part of Europe. Turkey has mountains with trendy ski resorts, rivers and lakes. But its main treasure is warm seas, which are ideal for swimming. It is not difficult to answer how many seas wash Turkey. It is much more difficult to choose a resort suitable for your own vacation from a number of worthy and interesting tourist destinations.

Many countries can envy the location of Turkey. It is located in the subtropical zone, but due to the fact that most of its territory is occupied by mountains, humid and hot weather is typical only for the southern coast. In the northern and western parts of Turkey, summers are warm, and even snow can fall in winter.

Let's determine how many seas wash Turkey:

  • The Black Sea can be found in the north of the country. The Black Sea resorts are preferred by the Turks themselves, they are not popular with foreigners;
  • Sea of Marmara. The border between Europe and Asia runs along it. It is completely located in Turkey. The most famous resort of this sea is Istanbul;
  • Aegean Sea. Washes Turkey from the west. Along the coast of the Aegean Sea there are resorts popular with our compatriots, including Marmaris and Bodrum;
  • Mediterranean Sea. The southern border of the country runs along it. Rest here is chosen by the majority of tourists.

Black Sea

There was a time when the Turks considered the Black Sea inhospitable. And this name had nothing to do with the sea itself. The fact is that there were villages on the shores of the Black Sea, whose inhabitants, with weapons in their hands, defended their own land from pirates.

There is no need to introduce the inhabitants of the CIS countries to the Black Sea. The inland sea, practically isolated from the world ocean, is distinguished by cool, slightly salted water. Even in summer, the water temperature here rarely exceeds 23 degrees. The sea is quite deep off the coast of Turkey, so there are not so many resorts here as on the Mediterranean coast. The most popular cities are historical Trabzon, famous for its sights of Kars and picturesque Ordu.

Many tourists come here not for a beach holiday, but in search of active and extreme entertainment. Interesting tourist routes have been developed in the mountains, which are almost close to the coast. Hikers can also go canoeing down the rushing mountain rivers.

Sea of marmara

The Black Sea is connected with the Bosphorus Strait of Marmara. The Sea of Marmara got its name from the Turkish island of Marmara, where marble has been mined from time immemorial. The salinity of the water here is much higher than in the Black Sea. The Sea of Marmara warms up much better than the Black Sea. In summer, the water temperature in this sea reaches 29 degrees, which is quite comfortable for swimming. The high season here begins in May and lasts until October. The Sea of Marmara attracts not only beach lovers, but also divers. There are beautiful coral reefs off the coast, which are definitely worth seeing on occasion.

Asking how many seas wash Turkey, and having heard the answer, few people are planning a vacation on the coast of the Sea of Marmara. And completely in vain! There are wonderful resorts with wide sandy beaches: Mudanya, which is famous for its fish taverns; Gemlik, located on the shores of the bay of the same name and famous for its Roman ruins; and of course Istanbul with many attractions.

Aegean Sea

The Aegean Sea, to which two countries - Greece and Turkey, have access, borders the Mediterranean Sea in the south. The water temperature in this sea in summer is several degrees colder than in the neighboring Marmara and Mediterranean. Nevertheless, the climate here is much more pleasant than in the south: sea winds successfully fight the summer heat. By the way, it is thanks to these winds that surfers successfully catch the wave here. The most popular resorts of the Aegean Sea: Marmaris, Kusadasi, Izmir.

Mediterranean Sea

Mediterranean Sea

The most famous resorts in Turkey are located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. During the high season, Antalya International Airport receives many aircraft from around the world. From there, tourists travel by bus to small towns: Belek, Side, Kemer, Alanya. The warmest, but also the most distant resort from Antalya is Alanya. The beach season starts here in April. And although the sea is still cold at this time, some tourists still go into the water. The advantages of the Mediterranean Sea over other seas surrounding Turkey are obvious: it warms up well and cools slowly. So, in October, the velvet season is still going on here.
