The favorite Egyptian resorts of several generations, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada are located on the Red Sea and owe their unprecedented popularity to it. And which sea washes Egypt from the north? Of course, the Mediterranean, and it is it that connects the famous Suez Canal with the Red.
Red is beautiful
The Red Sea is an inland sea and belongs to the Indian Ocean. It connects to the Gulf of Aden of the Arabian Sea in the south via the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. In the north, the Red Sea is cut by the Isthmus of Suez and forms two narrow "horns" - the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez.
The name of the Red Sea originated in ancient times, when the cardinal points in the mythical legends of many peoples were associated with a certain color. The south was associated with red, and this is how the sea became. Two-thirds of its water area lies in the tropics, and therefore the flora and fauna of the waters are very diverse and picturesque. At the same time, the waters of the Red Sea are considered the saltiest in the world, and the concentration of salts in it exceeds their content in other seas at times many times!
The tropical climate allows the temperature of sea water in the resorts of Egypt to not drop below +20 degrees, even in the low season and in the coldest months. In summer, the thermometer shows up to +27 degrees in coastal areas.
Among many lands
This is how you can characterize the location of the second sea of Egypt - the Mediterranean. This huge natural reservoir washes the northern borders of the country and it is from here that the most important shipping facility - the Suez Canal - originates. Its length is about 160 kilometers, and there is evidence that the first version of the navigable artery was laid a couple of thousand years before our era. The second and modern Suez Canal was built at the end of the 19th century, and many of the royal houses of Europe were present at its opening.
Local residents prefer to rest on the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt, while among foreign tourists, only one is considered a popular answer to the question of which seas in Egypt - "Red". The Mediterranean coast and the Nile Delta are one of the largest in the world, home to more than half of the country's population.
