The uniqueness of rest in Italian thermal resorts is explained by the fact that the country has volcanoes, due to which a wide network of underground channels has been developed here.

Features of thermal springs in Italy

About 400 geothermal springs are scattered across all regions of the country, on the basis of which hotels, resorts and sanatoriums were built. They have developed schemes for the intake of water and the passage of hydrotherapeutic procedures.

The main thermal springs in Italy are located in the regions of Lazio, Veneto, Campania, Tuscany. So, in the south of Italy, travelers will be able to find baths, the waters of which contain salt, iodine, bromine - they help to fight diseases of blood vessels, heart, lungs.

Monsummano Terme

Monsummano Terme is famous for its natural thermal grotto Giusti (water temperature + 34-35˚C), which has 3 zones - “Hell” (humidity - almost 100%); “Purgatory” (has Lake Limbo, the water in which is heated to +36 degrees; divers will be offered to dive into the lake and even visit there for an underwater meditation session); "Paradise".

Treatment in the Giusti grotto is indicated for people who have a weakened immune system and who are diagnosed with arthritis, psoriasis, chronic bronchitis, ENT diseases.

The resort will appeal to fans of excursions (old churches, mansions and the house-museum of Giuseppe Giusti are subject to inspection), and active vacationers (3 km from the grotto you can find a golf course with 18 holes).

Saturnia

Water of volcanic origin, temperature +37, 5˚C, has an exfoliating, antiseptic and cleansing effect, and is used in the treatment of circulatory disorders, gastrointestinal tract, blood pressure, diabetes, liver, skin. Visitors to Saturnia can visit both paid spa centers and the spring opened next to the old mill (admission is free).

Montecatini Terme

The Montecatini Terme resort has “sheltered” 8 thermal springs on its territory (temperature up to + 34˚C). Water of 5 of them is intended for drinking cures, and 3 others - for mud therapy and taking mineral baths. It is recommended to go to the resort for those who have problems with digestion, metabolism, joints, and the respiratory system.

In Montecatini Terme, the following sources deserve attention:

  • Terme Tettuccio: This water will help cleanse and normalize the liver, cure gastritis, lower cholesterol, and prevent kidney stones.
  • Terme Regina: local water helps to improve the functioning of the biliary tract. It will be possible to test its action in the complex (the hall is divided into 3 zones), the main entrance of which is decorated with a statue of a Stork in the middle of the fountain.
  • Terme Leopoldine: Water gushing from the crater fountain helps to solve the problem of chronic constipation.

Abano Terme

The thermal springs of Abano Terme have become famous since ancient times - when they come to the surface, they have a temperature of about + 80-90˚C (the water is enriched with iodine, sodium chloride and bromine).

In addition to treatment (if necessary, here you can visit the steam rooms, take thermal baths, do gymnastics in the water), tourists will be able to inspect the San Daniele monastery (the Lepnin Room deserves special attention - there you can admire the stucco moldings dating back to the 18th century, the floor of the 16th century, which is decorated with geometric patterns and a door made of Murano glass), the Cathedral of St. artists).

Sirmione

The glory of the town of Sirmione on Lake Garda was brought by the beaches, the Scaliger castle of the 13th century (the central, 47-meter tower of Mastio, is an observation tower) and unique baths. For therapeutic and prophylactic purposes, the water of the Boyola spring is used (“pouring out”, its temperature reaches + 69˚C), which is 19 meters deep, at the bottom of the lake.

This water heals rheumatism, rhinitis, diseases of the lungs, skin, female genital organs, and is actively used by the thermal complexes "Virgilio" (thermae function all year round from Monday to Saturday) and "Catullo Spa" (you can take thermal baths only in the summer months, but every day from 7 am to noon).

Ischia

There are many hotels on the island of Ischia, each of which provides guests with thermal pools, but the 6 thermal parks located on Ischia are in special demand. Among them, the "Poseidon Gardens" stand out (famous for 20 indoor and outdoor pools, the water in which has different temperatures - from + 28˚C to + 38˚C; entry cost - 32 euros / whole day; here, those who wish will be offered to do spa procedures, for which oils and deep seaweed are used) and "Tropical" (the park has 10 swimming pools, the water temperature in which is + 26-40˚C; if necessary, you can attend mud therapy sessions and inhalation procedures in the spa-salon).
