Wondering where to go to Italy by sea? Please note that August is considered the most popular month for a seaside holiday, which means that at this time Italian resorts are filled with vacationers and there may be problems with the availability of rooms in hotels.
Where to go to Italy for a seaside vacation?
The swimming season in Italy starts from the end of May, although it also happens that in the beginning of June the sea is cool (+ 18-19˚C). But in any case, it all depends on the resort chosen by travelers - the farther south, the warmer. The island of Capri, Sicily (Tyrrhenian coast), Sardinia and Ischia boast a long swimming season (June-late September - early October). The sea almost everywhere during the summer warms up to + 23-26˚C, and the most pleasant time for spending time on the beach can be considered the first half of September (water temperature + 23-24˚C).
Tourists should not be deprived of their attention and the Italian resorts located on the lakes of Como, Garda and Maggiore - they will appeal to families with children, thanks to the gardens, parks and convenient beaches there.
Bay of naples
The island of Ischia deserves the interest of beach goers: it is famous for hotels with thermal springs, health and balneological centers. Vacationers “occupy” local beaches from the end of May (water temperature + 20˚C) to October (water, comfortable for swimming, is kept at + 24˚C in September, and + 22˚C in October):
- Spiaggia di Citara: it is often chosen by families, active people and vacationers who want to admire the beautiful sunsets.
- Marina dei Maronti: On this three-kilometer beach, guests prefer to practice water sports and bask on the warm sand, while Marina dei Maronti also provides guests with healing mud and thermal springs.
- Spiaggia di Cartaromana: The beach is loved by divers as archaeological artifacts are likely to be found at the bottom.
Adriatic coast
Vacationers should pay attention to the Riccione resort - it is famous for the Aquafan water park (equipped with an artificial beach, picnic areas, swimming pools, in particular, the Ocean in Miniature imitating ocean waves, Aquakid children's area, water attractions Extreme River, Kamikaze”,“Fiume Rapido”,“Fiume Lento”,“Poseidon”,“Speedriul”) and a 7-kilometer coastline with fine golden sand. Local wide beaches are equipped with toilets, bars, showers, places reserved for playing table tennis and billiards, training centers (those who wish are taught the nuances of diving and windsurfing).
Mediterranean Sea
Those wishing to relax in the resorts of the Mediterranean should take a closer look at Sardinia, where about 25% of all Italian beaches are located, most of which have been awarded the Blue Flag. Unlike other Mediterranean resorts, where the beach season ends at the end of September, people continue to travel to Sardinia throughout October (the sea temperature is kept at + 21-22˚C) to spend time on local beaches:
- Poetto beach: a 6 km stretch of white sand is intended for relaxation. Since the sea is gaining depth over 50 m, there is plenty of space for swimming here for babies and poor swimmers. You can have a snack at a bar or a trattoria, and rent equipment for water pleasures at a rental point.
- Cala Mariolu beach: surrounded by rocks, covered with white marble pebbles (under the sun's rays, it changes its shade from white to pinkish). Divers flock here for the sake of diving sites and caves. And families with children in Cala Mariola like the shallow water and the absence of strong currents and underwater pits.
- La Pelosa beach: a white sand beach shelters holidaymakers from strong winds. It offers a well-developed infrastructure: they will be able to rent a sun lounger or a boat.
Tyrrhenian sea
Want to plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea? Dedicate your vacation to spending time in the beach area of Anzio (in June-mid-September the water warms up to + 25-26˚C), which stretches for 12 km from Villa Nero to the Pine Villa. There are both paid and free sites. There is a sandy bottom, a clean and rather shallow sea.
Ligurian coast
For a holiday on the Lyurian coast, Bordighera is perfect with its many hotels and villas, which are buried in beautiful gardens, as well as a pebble beach. During the day you can go wakeboarding, diving and surfing, sunbathe and swim, and in the evening you can stroll along the promenade or have fun at the beach disco. Arriving in Bordighera, do not miss the opportunity to visit the Italian food and wine festival at the table (last weekends of June-September).
Ionian coast
Rocca Imperiale is a popular resort on the Ionian coast: it is famous for its 7 km long beach, which attracts holidaymakers with different goals. In the summer (July-August), be sure to visit the Lemon Festival in order to get the opportunity to get lemon jam, syrups and liqueurs, limoncello liqueur, and pottery in the form of lemons.
