- Capital excursions in Slovakia
- Two countries - two fortresses
- Delicious excursions
Former Czechoslovakia is represented on the modern political map of the world by two independent states. At first glance, it seems that the Czech Republic is definitely the winner in terms of tourism. This is not entirely true, excursions in Slovakia, its beautiful mountain landscapes, preserved fortress complexes, ski resorts and sanatoriums allow tourists to find their own way of rest.
Slovakia is good at any time of the year: in winter, ski resorts work here, relatively affordable in price, year-round you can get treatment, relax and go on excursions that are thematically related to nature, the history of the country, its cities, towns and fortresses.
Capital excursions in Slovakia
Among the Slovak settlements, Bratislava, the country's main city, occupies the first place in the tourist ranking. City sightseeing tours are held daily, regardless of time or weather. The duration of the trip is from 2 hours, the cost is from 60 € for a group of up to 30 people.
Very often, excursion routes are combined, since the city is relatively small, then after walking along the streets and squares, guests go to explore the surroundings. An idyllic, pastoral picture is presented to the eyes - small villages, fields and vineyards. But in Bratislava itself there are many beautiful places, ancient monuments and modern architectural gems.
From historical structures and buildings the attention of tourists is attracted by the following capital objects: Bratislava Castle; the magnificent Cathedral of St. Martin; Old Town Hall; Mikhailovskie gates; Archbishop's Palace. You can endlessly list the architectural sights of the Slovak capital, but it is much better to buy a sightseeing tour and go to this small, fabulous country.
Two countries - two fortresses
Since Slovakia occupies a small territory, it borders on Poland and Austria, it is quite common to find excursion routes that include visiting several countries. One of the most interesting tours is “Two countries - two fortresses”. Tourists are invited to get acquainted with the Slovak citadel Devin and its Austrian "colleague" - the Schlossberg fortress.
The excursion is by car, but it will last only about 5 hours, the price for an amazing adventure in history is relatively low - from 60 to 90 € for a small company. The powerful Devin fortress was once located on a high rock, at the confluence of the Morava River with the famous Danube. During the Napoleonic Wars, the French army did not spare this beautiful fortification and blew it up.
Today, tourists see the fortress as a symbol of past eras and great battles, against the backdrop of a picturesque cliff covered with lush vegetation. Tourists love to be photographed against the backdrop of a defensive structure and beautiful rocky landscapes. Event tours and excursions to Devin are popular; medieval festivals and ethnographic holidays are often held here.
Not far from the Slovak border is the town of Hainburg, the "property" of Austria. In this place in the XI century, the Schlossberg fortress was erected, at one time its task was to protect the surrounding territories from the enemy. Today the citadel operates as an important tourist site.
Delicious excursions
Gastronomic tourism in Slovakia is one of the most popular destinations. There are many vineyards and factories producing delicious, inexpensive wine in the country. In the wake of tourists' interest in this topic, Slovak guides organize various “tasty trips”. Among the most interesting proposals is the “Wine road through the Small Carpathians”. The duration of such an excursion will be about 5 hours with departure from Bratislava, the cost is within 100 € for a "quartet" of tourists.
The route passes through small wine-growing towns and villages, along the Small Carpathians. On the way, tourists will find beautiful natural landscapes - mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes, lush vegetation. The program of the route includes a tour of wineries, a walk through the villages and surroundings, and tasting.
Also, tourists will be able to see one of the most picturesque old Slovak castles with the beautiful name Krasny Kamen. Its construction began in 1230 and lasted until the 16th century; it is interesting that the famous Albrecht Durer took part in the development of the architectural project.
Since the 17th century, the castle has lost its significance as a defensive center, it began to turn into a real palace with artistic treasures made by Italian masters. Since 1949, it has been nationalized and turned into a museum. Today, you can not only get to know the castle from the outside or take a walk in the courtyard, but also visit the expositions, where rich collections of weapons and antique furniture are presented.
