Small and cozy Slovakia lies in the very heart of Europe, and in most of its territory there are mountains - the High and Low Tatras and the Carpathian arc. The climatic features of the mountainous part of Slovakia allow all lovers of snowboarding and alpine skiing to indulge in their favorite sport without hindrance for a fairly long season.
The advantages of winter holidays in Slovakia include the still low, in comparison with the big brothers in Western Europe, the order of prices for hotels and equipment rental. Special attention should be paid to the excellent cuisine, the masterpieces of which can be tasted in the restaurants of Slovakia in your free time from sports. Ecologically clean mountain areas, crystal air and magnificent surroundings complete the list of advantages of the ski resorts in Slovakia.
Spa Jasna in the Low Tatras
Yasna is located in the mountain range, which is the spurs of the Carpathians. This place cannot offer its fans particularly high peaks, but its infrastructure, thermal springs and well-groomed trails invariably attract many athletes. The main mountain in the resort - Chopok - is located in the territory of the national park. Jasna has become the arena for holding international competitions in alpine skiing of the European level more than once.
The season at the resort usually starts in early winter and lasts until early April. In total, there are about 60 km of trails in Jasna, among which there is a zone for beginners. It is in it, at an altitude of about 1500 meters, that an excellent snow park was built. It is considered the most modern on the slopes of Slovakia. Moreover, in the park there is an opportunity for beginners to get on the board for the first time and work out difficult somersaults - the pros.
They did not forget about the little boarders in Yasna. A children's snow park was equipped for them, where the children willingly train under the supervision of competent coaches from the local ski school. There are also Russian-speaking instructors among the instructors, and therefore Yasna is becoming more and more popular with Russian families of snowboarders.
It is more profitable to purchase ski passes immediately for the entire duration of the vacation. It is convenient to get around the territory of Jasna with a free shuttle bus that runs between the ski complex and the local water park.
Donovaly Spa in the Low Tatras
This winter sports area is located between the Low Tatras ridge and the Velyka Fatra mountain range. Donovaly is divided into two districts, the first of which, Zagradishte, is more suitable for very green boarders and skiers. The ski area of Nova Golya will appeal to fans of extreme sports - the slopes here are difficult, and some slopes are only able to be overcome by professionals.
The first athletes arrive at the resort in mid-November, and the season usually closes in April. The total length of 17 tracks is small - about 11 km, but seven of them are supplied with fresh snow using cannons, and some are artificially illuminated in the evening.
Only 600 meters of pistes are allotted at the resort for snowboarders, and therefore Donovaly is unlikely to be of interest to advanced athletes. But for those who take only the first steps in skiing, the local routes seem safe and easy.
A plus for a trip to the Donovaly ski resort will be a varied entertainment program in your free time from the mountain. Here you can not only relax in the sauna or have fun at the disco, but also take part in regular dog sledding championships.
Spa Tatranska Lomnica in the High Tatras
This resort is located in the region of the second highest mountain in Slovakia - Lomnický Štit, which soars into the sky at 2632 meters. At the foot of the mountain is the center of local entertainment - the village of Skalnate Pleso. The season at the resort starts in the first days of the calendar winter and ends in April.
The slopes in Tatranska Lomnica are laid at an altitude of 800 to 2200 meters, 12 lifts bring athletes to them. All the slopes of the Yami zone for beginners stretch for 10 km, of which only one is considered difficult. Therefore, this place for winter sports is especially attractive for beginners and families with children. The Lomnické Saddle area offers excellent trails marked as black.
Snowboarders are offered several slopes, which can be classified as tracks of average difficulty level.
Spa Smokovec in the High Tatras
It can be called a modern, technically equipped resort with a well-developed infrastructure, despite the fact that Smokovec is one of the oldest ski areas in Slovenia. The season, as elsewhere in the country, lasts from November to mid-spring.
There is an excellent ski school at the resort in the Novy Smokovec area, where professional, including Russian-speaking, instructors will put everyone on a snowboard or ski. The Stary Smokovec area has three trails for the inexperienced and the Horna Luka black slalom slope, starting at an altitude of 1500 meters.
