After the fall of the socialist regime in Yugoslavia, the country was divided into several independent states, one of which is today the Republic of Serbia. It is located in the southeastern part of the Old World in the center of the Balkan Peninsula and is landlocked. But this circumstance does not in the least prevent the cheerful Serbs from organizing an excellent beach holiday. In Serbia, it is very popular with both local residents and foreign tourists.
Where to go to sunbathe?
Having found himself in Serbia in the midst of the swimming season, having examined its wonderful architectural sights and historical monuments and taking a photo for memory, the average traveler will certainly ask this question. Beach holidays in Serbia are organized in two places:
- The island of Tsiganlija on the Sava River in the capital of the country was artificially connected to the coast and today the Ada-Tsiganlija peninsula is the most fashionable summer vacation spot for Belgrade residents and guests of the city.
- The beach in the Novi Sad resort on the left bank of the Danube River gained popularity at the beginning of the last century. It was opened in 1911 and local fashionistas immediately appreciated the new product. Coffee shops and restaurants appeared on Strand Beach, and its infrastructure gave a hundred points ahead to many popular European baths.
More than two dozen thermal spas have been opened in Serbia, where patients with a variety of diseases are treated. Hotels and hospitals are usually equipped with swimming pools, which means that you can sunbathe, if the weather permits, not only on the beaches. It is quite possible to combine holidays in Serbia with useful procedures, the prices of which make tours to the country an extremely profitable enterprise.
Weather features of a beach holiday in Serbia
The climate of the Republic of Serbia is largely determined by two factors: the proximity of the warm seas washing the peninsula, and the terrain. The seas surrounding the Balkans are Black, Aegean and Adriatic and their proximity brings precipitation in late May and early June and softens the heat during the peak of the beach season.
The swimming season on Serbian rivers begins in early June, when the air warms up steadily in the daytime to + 25 ° С, and the water - up to + 20 ° С. Temperatures reach their maximum in July and early August, when thermometers show + 29 ° С and + 25 ° С in air and water, respectively.
Warm weather is also in Serbia in autumn. Until mid-October, you can comfortably sunbathe and swim on the beaches, after which cold and dry winds from the north - koshava and severac - come into their own.
Active and athletic
Ada Ciganlija in Belgrade is a classic beach resort. There are not many of them in Serbia, and therefore the former island on the Sava River is wildly popular and at least 100 thousand people visit it every summer. The sports and recreation complex on the island is connected to the shore and forms an artificial lake on the river. There are excellent conditions for recreation and sports on the seven kilometers of Tsiganli beaches:
- There is a very decent quality golf course on the banks of the Sava.
- On the beaches there is an opportunity to play volleyball, football and even rugby. Baseball courts have also been equipped.
- The tennis courts on the island are very popular and do not stay idle for a single hour.
- Extreme sports and recreation are available for the guests of the resort. The most popular of these are bungee jumping, paintball battles and water skiing.
- Hiking and cycling enthusiasts can take advantage of the many trails along the Sava.
Another reason for the popularity of beach holidays in Serbia on Ada Tsiganlija is the special curative microclimate. In this area, it is always a couple of degrees cooler than in Belgrade, and nearby groundwater saturates the air with humidity. Ada-Tsiganliya is also loved by fans of ecological tourism and observing animals. On the peninsula you can find hares and pheasants, deer and quails.
The beaches have the necessary infrastructure - changing rooms and toilets, catamarans and boat rentals, sun loungers and umbrellas, cafes and children's playgrounds.
The distance from the center of the capital to Ada Tsiganliya does not exceed four kilometers. You can stay on vacation at any hotel in Belgrade, and getting to the recreation area is easy by a rented car, public transport or a taxi, which is very cheap in the country. The recreation area has a parking lot, which costs a little over one euro per day. Bus routes connecting the city center to the beaches: 23, 52, 53, 56, and the seasonal lines ADA1, 2, 3, 4, 5, operating from 9 am to 9 pm. The price of a taxi ride will be from 6 to 8 euros.
Danube waves
Novi Sad was founded in the 17th century and soon became an important cultural center of Serbia. The local Strand beach on the banks of the Danube is a favorite vacation spot for residents and guests of the resort. Infrastructure for beach recreation appeared on Strand already in the 1920s. In addition to trendy coffee shops and restaurants, vacationers received changing cabins, in which they rented bathing suits. Even then, active youth could jump into the water from special platforms, and romantic couples could rent pleasure boats.
Modern beach holidays in Serbia at the Novi Sad resort include comfortable hotels, the prices of which are much lower than in hotels of the corresponding class in other European countries, restaurants with authentic Balkan cuisine, and many active entertainments.
The Novi Sad resort is a venue for music festivals. Particularly popular was the State of Exit, which was awarded the 2007 British prize as "Best European Festival".
