Like the rest of the Catholic countries, Spain holds its own carnival, as is customary, on the eve of Lent. The last grandiose revelry before the impending long-term pacification of the flesh is the essence of the carnival in Barcelona, called by the locals Carnestoltes. It is enough for Spaniards who love holidays to give only the slightest excuse to fill the country with the enchanting state of an eternal fiesta, so that the carnival period is distinguished by noisy festivities, closed shops, irregularly working institutions and an abundance of libations of all kinds.

- Carnival begins in Barcelona on Broad Thursday in the Barri de Ribera area. Its main event is the arrival of the Carnival King, whose presence throughout the holiday will be felt in every procession or parade. The responsible role of the King of Barcelona is entrusted to the beloved actor or simply a respected person.
- On Friday, celebrations usually take place at the El Born Cultural Center.
- Saturday morning is declared the day of processions. Each area of the city celebrates in its own way, but everywhere you can see colorful carts, dancers, dressed up women and men, smart children and even animals.
- On Sunday, it makes sense to taste the specialties of Barcelona and treat yourself to local drinks. On this day, tortilla-making competitions are held in various parts of the city.
- The Grand Parade, or Gran Rua, continues on Tuesday. Its participants walk along Parallel Avenue next to the Royal Dockyards.
During the Barcelona Carnival, additional trains and buses run between the city center and the Sitges suburb. There is its own holiday - the Parade of Debauchery. Its participants are representatives of sexual minorities, and their carnival is very popular with fans of exotic events.
