In October 1995, another administrative-territorial entity of the Russian Federation became the owner of its own heraldic symbol. The coat of arms of the Novgorod region is a reflection of the glorious history of this Russian region. Some elements present in the composition are taken from the coat of arms of the center of the region.
Description of the official symbol of the Novgorod region
Any color photo demonstrates the serious approach of the authors of the sketch in choosing the color palette of the heraldic symbol. To depict the elements of the composition, the colors popular in European heraldry were chosen: azure, gold, silver, scarlet, black. Each of the colors of the coat of arms of the Novgorod region has its own meaning.
The compositional construction of the official symbol of this Russian region is rather complicated. The coat of arms of the region includes the following parts:
- a shield with a lot of important elements;
- a precious crown crowning the shield;
- the frame is made of a lush oak wreath entwined with an azure ribbon.
Each of these complexes can be decomposed into separate symbol elements. The most interesting from this point of view is the shield. It is divided into two fields, unequal in area. In the lower field of azure color, two silver fish with black fins are depicted. Representatives of the kingdom of Poseidon are in a position - with their heads facing each other.
A complex finished composition is located in the upper field of silver color. The central place is occupied by a golden royal throne with a scarlet seat, set on a pedestal. The following elements are placed on a soft seat - a cross and a scepter, crossing each other. There is a candlestick with three lighted candles on the back of the throne.
This composition is supported by two black bears, located on the sides of the royal throne. Each of the formidable animals holds the armrest and the back of the throne with its upper paws, the lower paw stands on a pedestal.
From the history of the coat of arms
At first glance, it is clear that the modern heraldic symbol of the Novgorod region has a long history. The historical coat of arms had the same elements as the today's symbol of the region, and the color palette has also been preserved.
The bear is one of the most popular heroes in Russian heraldry; it is the personification of strength, courage, and strong power. The king's throne, located on the shield, has the same meaning. The cross is a symbol of the Orthodox faith, the scepter is another reminder of a strong state.
