Little Austria can offer its guests many pleasant surprises - architectural monuments, alpine ski resorts, summer holidays on the lakes and profitable shopping during the Christmas sales period. The country has absorbed many cultures of European peoples, and therefore holidays in Vienna and other Austrian cities attract no less tourist attention than sights or mountain landscapes. 13 days are called national holidays in the country, among which are not only Easter and New Year, traditional in Europe.
Let's take a look at the calendar
The main holidays in Vienna, according to its inhabitants, are Christmas and every person's own birthday. As gifts, crowns prefer practical things that are necessary for the birthday person or the owner of the house. It is customary to visit guests with a bottle of wine, flowers or sweets. The list of popular holidays must be marked:
- Austrian National Day, celebrated on December 26 since 1955.
- New Year, traditionally starting on January 1st.
- The days of the Ascension of the Lord, All Saints, the Immaculate Conception, and the Trinity revered by believers.
Among the saints especially revered in Austria, Martin is usually called the first, in whose honor grandiose celebrations are held annually on November 11. The patron saint of the poor and the soldiers, Saint Martin was once a general who set an example of kindness and generosity to his soldiers. Now, on this November evening, the crowns set the tables and taste new wine. November 11 is considered the date when it ripens and is ready to eat. With St. Martin's Day, the famous season of carnivals and Viennese balls begins its festive countdown.
To the Vienna Opera
One of the finest opera houses in the Old World, the Vienna Opera appears on all television screens in the world on the last Thursday before Lent for the annual ball. This event has been held since the first half of the nineteenth century and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Specially selected dance couples open the Vienna Ball with a polonaise, after which they demonstrate their skills in the performance of the polka and waltz. In total, 200 couples enter the dance floor at the same time, and you can get to this holiday in Vienna either by receiving an invitation from the organizers, or by buying a ticket, the price of which starts from 250 euros. The ball has a special dress code - tuxedos for gentlemen and long dresses and crowns for ladies.
In honor of the patron saint of Austria
Another particularly beloved holiday in Vienna is the day of its patron Saint Leopold. Every year on November 15, the capital of the country pays tribute to the memory of the person who has significantly strengthened its authority in the international arena. Leopold founded several monasteries and was canonized and declared the patron saint of Austria.
During school holidays
The crowns love vacations. At Christmas, Easter, Trinity and in the summer from the beginning of July to the first days of September, schools are closed, which means that there is a significant increase in visitors everywhere. But museums and exhibition halls are announcing these days about discounts on entrance tickets.
