The capital of Transnistria received its coat of arms in 1978. This fact can be considered quite rare, since there was no talk of the independence of the republic at that time, the introduction of an official symbol was not explained by either political or economic events. Simply by the decision of the executive committee of the Council of People's Deputies of the city, the coat of arms of Tiraspol was approved.
The main symbols of modern Tiraspol
When creating a sketch of the coat of arms, the authors relied on European heraldic traditions. They tried in a short, concise form to reflect the pages of the past of Tiraspol, as well as to show its present, what the capital's residents are proud of.
The creators of the coat of arms undoubtedly took into account the wishes of the party and governing bodies, since the main symbols are associated with industry and agriculture, the main sectors of the country's economy. So, the main heraldic sign of Tiraspol is a French shield, which has the following elements:
- a stylized image of a gear at the top;
- a symbolically depicted vine at the bottom;
- alternating wavy stripes.
The gear in this case is a kind of reference to light and heavy industry enterprises in the city and its environs. A bunch of grapes suggests that, firstly, Transnistria is an important agricultural region of the country, and secondly, the main branch of agriculture is viticulture.
The wavy lines running diagonally and dividing the shield in half are a symbolic representation of the Dniester River, the main waterway of Tiraspol, used in urban and agriculture.
Milestones in history
An important reminder of the rather long history of Tiraspol is the number "1792", which indicates the year of the city's foundation and is written in the upper part of the composition. In addition, there is another symbol - the battlements of the fortress wall, also depicted in the upper part of the shield, a reminder of the original role of the city as a fortress protecting the southern borders of the Russian Empire.
The fortress received its first coat of arms in 1847, the main symbol of the city was approved by Emperor Nicholas I. In the image there was a part of the wall, depicted in scarlet color. The next version of the coat of arms was considered in 1868, among the important elements were images of a tower crown, acorns and golden ears, intertwined with the Andreevskaya ribbon. It remained a project, and a new heraldic symbol of the city was introduced during the years of Soviet power.
