Description of the attraction
The Tiraspol United Museum is one of the municipal cultural institutions of the capital of Transnistria, the city of Tiraspol. The museum was created as a result of the merger of several Tiraspol museums that existed since the Soviet years (the Museum of History and Local Lore, the House-Museum of Academician N. Zelinsky, the Headquarters Museum of the G. Kotovsky Cavalry Brigade, the Art Gallery and the Museum of the History of the Tiraspol Fortress) into one structural institution.
The United Museum was founded in 2002 on the basis of the Museum of History and Local Lore. Throughout the entire period of its activity, the museum has repeatedly changed its location, however, as a rule, all buildings in which it was located belonged to historical monuments. It is currently housed in a building erected in the second half of the 19th century. for the Noble Assembly of the Tiraspol district. As for the branches, all of them are also located in historical buildings: for example, the Military Historical Museum of the headquarters of the cavalry brigade placed its expositions in the building of the former hotel "Paris", the branch "Tiraspol Fortress" - in the powder magazine of the bastion "St. Vladimir", which is considered the old city building, and the memorial house-museum of N. Zelinsky was placed in the house in which the academician N. Zelinsky himself was born. The main fund of the museum collection consists of more than 85 thousand exhibits, about 32 thousand more exhibits are in the scientific auxiliary fund.
The house-museum of Academician N. Zelinsky was opened in 1987. The exposition was based on materials donated by the scientist's family: his personal belongings, photographs, letters, and so on.
The opening of the Tiraspol Picture Gallery took place in 1962. During this time, about 3 thousand works of art have accumulated in the museum's funds.
Museum of the headquarters of the cavalry brigade G. I. Kotovsky will attract its visitors with an interesting collection of posters from the Civil War, genuine household items, uniforms of the Kotovsky cavalrymen and weapons of that period.
The Museum of the History of the Tiraspol Fortress is still in the process of creation.
