The map shows that Delhi is subdivided into nine districts, each of which includes three districts.
Names and descriptions of the main areas of Delhi
- Old Delhi: its main attractions are the Red Fort (it has a History Museum, the entrance to which will cost 100 rupees - it is a repository of carpets, fabrics, weapons, chess sets), the Digambara temple (it is worth admiring the lobby painted in gold colors; in its courtyard you can find a hospital in which sick birds are nursed), Humayun's tomb (the height of the tomb is more than 40 m; the grave is made of yellow-black marble; a garden is laid out around the building, where it will be pleasant to walk on wide lawns with green grass), Qutub Minar (this minaret, more than 70 m high, reflects medieval Indo-Islamic architecture), the Gauri Shankar temple (of interest are the sculptures of Shiva and Parvati located in the main sanctuary), Jami Masjid (in this operating mosque, visitors will be able to see a copy of the Koran written on a deer skin, but the entrance for tourists is open at certain hours; photography is allowed here, but you have to pay 200 rupees; and to climb the minaret, you need to pay 100 rupees).
- New Delhi: here tourists will be able to see Akshardham (the temple complex is decorated with 20,000 sculptures; here you can visit the cinema, which shows a film about the pilgrimage of a yoga boy, as well as admire the light and music fountain), Lakshmi-Narayana temples (it is built of white-pink marble colors; the temple is decorated with scenes from the sacred Hindu scriptures, over which the stone carvers worked; after visiting the temple, it is worth visiting the garden, where there is a square with a fountain and cascading waterfalls) and Lotus (it resembles a flower with 27 blossoming petals; the temple is surrounded by 9 pools), visit Lodi Gardens (a green park with ponds, picnic and yoga lawns, fountains, benches, several mausoleums, a rose garden, a butterfly reserve, a Bonsai park with a collection of dwarf trees), National (not subject to inspection less than 200,000 works of art of Indian and foreign origin) and the Museum of Crafts (here you can see not only about more than 20,000 exhibits, but also look into the store to acquire unique works of local craftsmen).
- Paharganj: you can come here for the many shops and shops selling cheap clothes (note that these things will not be of the highest quality) and souvenirs.
Where to stay for tourists
Interested in cheap guesthouses, budget hotels, cheap internet cafes in the city? You will be able to find them in the Paharganj area (here you can stay in the “Hotel City Star”).
It is very similar to Paharganj Karol Bagh (budget district), the only thing is that it is not so noisy (take a closer look at “Yug Villa” or “Shimla Heritage”).
Do you want to save money? Accommodation in New Delhi will suit you.
