Planning to celebrate Christmas in Karlovy Vary? You will be able to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a warm holiday with its Christmas markets and festive events.
Features of the celebration of Christmas in Karlovy Vary
4 weeks before Christmas, Czechs begin to observe fasting and decorate their homes, in particular, with an Advent wreath (made from cones, spruce branches and other accessories), and on the first Sunday of Advent, one candle is lit on it, on the second Sunday - two, etc..d.
On the Christmas table, Czechs always have fried carp, baked goose, potato and mushroom salads, and all kinds of homemade cookies. It is worth noting that interesting traditions are associated with the Christmas feast: for example, it is customary for an even number of people to gather at the table (otherwise, an additional table set is placed), and each guest needs to put carp scales under the plate for good luck. Once in Karlovy Vary during Christmas, tourists can visit the restaurant “Chebsky Dvur” or “Galerka”.
Entertainment and celebrations in Karlovy Vary
In December, until the 28th, everyone can visit the Karlovy Vary Regional Library - an exhibition of Christmas cards drawn by local artists is held here.
During the winter holidays, it is recommended to visit the House of Christmas - Doubi Castle, located in the vicinity of Karlovy Vary: the castle courtyard will greet you with a traditional nativity scene with a figurine of the baby Jesus in a manger, and inside the castle you will see a Christmas tree, a model of the city with churches, houses, carousels, an ice rink, railroad and figures of people. In general, the exposition of the castle museum presents Christmas decor in the form of ornaments made of beads, lace, hand-painted Christmas tree decorations (they are made of ceramics, glass, dough, paper, straw, metal). And young artists will be offered here to go to the creative workshop to create an original decoration for the Christmas tree, painting wooden decorations to their liking.
In December (dates must be confirmed in advance), the St. Anne's Church is open to the Advent Concert and the Czech Christmas Mass, and the Karlovy Vary City Theater for the Christmas Folklore Concert and Jazz Christmas.
It is worth noting that vacationers with children can go on a journey in the footsteps of Santa Claus, performing various tasks on their way (this must be noted in a card issued at the Boží Dar information center located near Karlovy Vary). And upon the return of the child with a completed card, small gifts will be waiting.
