Nepal is a state with a small territory, but this does not prevent the country from receiving a huge number of guests. It is worth remembering that it is in Nepal that the eight highest peaks in the world are located. And one of them is the legendary Chomolungma (Everest). In addition to the opportunity to admire this beauty, a trip to Nepal will present the bright smells of spices, jungle, rice fields and countless temples, stupas and meditation centers.
Public transport
The main means of travel in Nepal are buses. The routes connect almost all the settlements of the country. But most of the roads connect the capital of the country with the suburbs and areas especially convenient for climbing. There are both day and night routes as the buses travel at very low speeds.
There are three types of buses running around the country:
- Regular. Tickets for them are low, but the cars are always crowded, as passengers transport poultry and small livestock as luggage. There is no air conditioning. Sometimes there is not enough space in the cabin, and therefore some people travel, sitting on the roof. The technical condition of the machines is far from perfect.
- Modern minibuses (tourist minibus). The price is about half that of a regular bus.
- Air-conditioned buses (tourist сoach). Compared with the usual ones, the price is about three times higher, but even in this case it is not high.
A ticket for a tourist bus can be purchased at any travel agency, and for ordinary cars - at the ticket offices of bus stations. It is important to remember that during the peak tourist season, it is best to book tickets in advance about three days before departure.
The country's capital, Kathmandu, has buses, trolleybuses, taxis, rickshaws and minibuses. But the schedule is almost never followed, and the cars themselves are always overcrowded. The fare must be passed on to the conductor.
Taxi
The most convenient way to get around the capital and its environs is by taxi. During the day, the fare is as follows: landing - 7 rupees; for every 200 meters - 2 rupees. Payment must be made by meter, but taxi drivers may offer a fixed fee as well. Most often, in this case, the numbers are very overestimated. An overnight trip (after 9pm) will cost 50% more.
Air transport
The territory of the country is small, but domestic flights are well developed here. In total, there are 46 airports in the country, but only a few take flights during the rainy season. There are airport complexes that operate exclusively during the dry season and receive aircraft that can take off almost from a place.
The cost of flights is quite high. Flights are often canceled due to bad weather. Twin-engine aircraft are used, which can accommodate no more than ten passengers.
