If you are going to visit Bangladesh, you should get acquainted with many customs of this country in order to be ready for any turn of events that seem strange and unusual to you. The national characteristics of Bangladesh are based on centuries-old traditions that are revered by the indigenous people of this country.

Bengalis make up 98% of the population. The official language is Bengali, but in business circles you can easily hear good spoken English, otherwise, how can you communicate with visiting business partners here? By the way, in some higher institutions of Bangladesh, it is also customary to use two languages - Bengali and English.

Bengalis are a religious people. However, not one religion is professed here, but several. It is this position that is the basis of human lives and rules of behavior. In Bangladesh Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism are professed.

Bengal customs and traditions

Those Bengalis who live in the villages, oddly enough, are adherents of pagan traditions and canons. They believe that the carcass of a bird, an empty jug, or a willow branch on the road is in big trouble. It's not even worth convincing Bengalis. They will accept their understanding.

If a child is born in the family, then it is desirable that he be a boy. Of course, the girl is also happy, but not so much. After all, she will need to collect the dowry before the wedding. And after the wedding, she will go to her husband's family, and there she will help his parents with the housework. At the same time, the son always remains the support and hope of the family, which relies on him in everything.

Girls and boys in Bangladesh have the right to decide for themselves with the choice of a partner with whom they will go through life. But the choice must necessarily be approved by the senior members of the family. Guys can get married from 21 years old, and girls from 18 years old. If a young man does not work, then his parents may well forbid him to marry. In general, it is considered very shameful not to work in Bangladesh.

Be aware that it is not customary in Bangladesh to greet people with a handshake. If you want to say hello to a child or a woman, then nodding is better than touching the person. In the marketplace, you will never be grabbed by the hands of traders looking to sell their wares.
