The administrative-territorial division of Azerbaijan has been preserved since the times when it, as a union republic, was part of the USSR. In total, there are 66 regions in the country called districts, 12 cities of republican subordination and one Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. The country has complicated relations with neighboring Armenia, because it and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic control some regions of Azerbaijan. However, the Armenians have counter claims to Baku, and therefore it is difficult to call the modern neighborhood of the two countries peaceful and pleasant.

Repeating the alphabet

Each of the 66 regions of Azerbaijan has an administrative center, the name of which does not always coincide with the name of the territorial district formation.

The alphabetical list is headed by the Apsheron and Aghdam districts, and the Shusha and Yardimli districts are at the bottom. The largest territories include the Sheki and Quba regions, and the least visible on the map is the Ganja region.

Climatic phenomenon

Azerbaijan is only in 112th place in terms of its territory among the world powers, but this does not prevent it from offering its guests nine of the eleven climatic zones existing on the planet in its small area. You will not find such a variety of nature and weather in many countries of the first world ten! Subtropics and mixed forests, steppes and semi-deserts - a trip to the regions of Azerbaijan will be an exciting and varied adventure for everyone who prefers active rest.

Ancient Shivan Center

The ancient state of the Shirvanshahs was once located on the territory of the region of Azerbaijan, located slightly east of the central part of the country. Today the Shemakha region of the country is one of the most popular holiday destinations for both local and foreign tourists. The main attractions of the region are mosques and mausoleums of the 8th-16th centuries, a healing cave near the village of Melhem and Forty Springs of the village of Girkh.

This region of Azerbaijan is also popular with fans of ecotourism. The Pirgulu reserve offers acquaintance with rare plant species listed in the endangered species book, and in the Dzhanginsky forest you can taste wild juicy pears and swim in sulfur springs.

Witch lake

On the territory of the Goygol region of Azerbaijan, a reserve of the same name has been created, the main pearl of which is considered to be the Blue Lake. The extraordinary turquoise color of the water is not the only feature of the reservoir. According to local beliefs, the air around the Blue Lake is unusually healing and even cures diseases of the respiratory and nervous system. Scientists explain this fact by the high ionization of the air, and local residents - by the special magical properties of the evaporating lake water.
