Russia's closest neighbor, the Republic of Belarus, is one of the most popular tourist destinations for compatriots. Here you can have a great rest and heal in a sanatorium, walk through places of military glory and pay tribute to the memory of the fathers for their exploits in the Great Patriotic War, and even go downhill skiing inexpensively. All regions of Belarus gladly receive guests, and its inhabitants guarantee the traveler care, attention and home comfort and coziness.
Repeating the alphabet
The country has a fairly simple territorial and administrative structure and is divided into six regions, approximately equal in area and population. The alphabetical list of the regions of Belarus is opened by the legendary Brest region. The feat of the defenders of the Brest Fortress in the last war became a symbol of courage and fortitude.
Vitebsk Oblast occupies the northernmost region of the country, and Gomel Oblast is located in the southeast. Both of them form a large share in the fuel sector of the Belarusian economy. Grodno region is the western part of the state. It is here that the forests of Belovezhskaya Pushcha, recognized by UNESCO as a worthy part of the World Heritage List, make noise.
The very east of the country is the Mogilev region, famous for its mechanical engineering and chemical industry products, and in the center, as befits a capital region, is the Minsk region. However, Minsk itself is not part of any of the regions of Belarus and has a special status of an independent administrative-territorial unit.
Familiar strangers
The territory of the Brest region of Belarus extends far to the west and borders on Poland and Ukraine. In terms of the number of attractions of interest to the traveler, this is one of the richest regions in the country:
- The museum on the territory of the Brest Fortress tells about the heroic immortal garrison, which for long weeks defended the country's borders from treacherous enemy hordes.
- The remainder of the relict forest called Belovezhskaya Pushcha has the status of a biosphere reserve, where unique flora and fauna have been preserved. In the lists of "living" there are more than 200 species of birds and 59 species of mammals.
- The 13th century Kamenets Tower is a perfectly preserved Romanesque building over 30 meters high in the town of Kamenets.
- The ruins of the Puslovskys' palace from the first third of the 19th century are a unique example of a neo-Gothic castle being restored today by Belarusian restorers.
