The capital of Serbia, Belgrade has an amazingly rich history. Belgrade is located at the confluence of two rivers - the Danube and the Sava. The city was founded in the third century BC, was destroyed and rebuilt many times.

Today Belgrade pleases us with many amazing architectural monuments. The city enchants not only with fantastic sights, but also with the beauty of fabulous streets, picture houses. The local population is very sympathetic to the guests of the city.

Belgrade fortress

The first thing that is worth visiting in the capital, having arrived here for the first time, is the Belgrade Fortress. It is located on the top of a hill at an altitude of 125 meters. The territory of the fortress is conditionally divided into two parts: the Upper and the Lower city. There are a lot of interesting places from the historical point of view. You can admire the picturesque ruins of a Byzantine temple and the ruins of an ancient Roman settlement. A walk through local churches and farmsteads will also be remembered for a long time.

Five towers have been perfectly preserved on the territory of the fortress to this day. The most unusual is the tower, decorated with a huge clock. Earlier, one of the buildings was decorated with a "talking" clock, but, unfortunately, they have not survived to this day. You can enter the fortress through the Istanbul Gate dating from the 18th century.

House of flowers

This name is not hiding a large botanical garden or something similar. The House of Flowers is actually a mausoleum where the former ruler of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, rests. The body of the leader is embalmed and lies in a closed sarcophagus, in contrast to the Moscow mausoleum, where Lenin's body is on display. There are a lot of flowers around the mausoleum, since Tito was engaged in gardening during his lifetime. Hence the unusual name of this place of sorrow.

There are especially many visitors to the House of Flowers on Tito's birthday, May 25. Also, the date of death has not been forgotten. People come to pay tribute to Tito on May 4th. There are other halls in the mausoleum, in which the personal belongings of the ruler are placed - hookahs, gifts, items of clothing, etc.

Skadarlie pedestrian quarter

Skadarliye is a completely pedestrianized quarter, where during a walk you can listen to live music, admire magnificent mansions, as well as dine in a chic restaurant or have a snack in a cozy cafe. Women should remember that the streets of Skadarliye are paved with paving stones, so it is better to refuse to walk in high-heeled shoes.
