Transport in Norway is a fairly extensive network of road, air and rail routes.
Main modes of transport in Norway
- Buses: they can take you to major cities and the smallest settlements. Since trips combining travel by bus and ferry are often organized from the island parts to the mainland, the cost of the ferry is also included in the bus ticket. Despite the relative high cost of tickets, travel by bus will prove to be more profitable than by plane or train. In addition, promotions and sales are often extended to tickets sold. In addition, it is more profitable to purchase tickets valid for 3, 7 or more days (they give the right to make unlimited trips).
- Aircraft: Thanks to the well-developed domestic air links, you can reach various cities, including villages located on the islands and in the mountains.
- Water transport: you can get to small and large islands, many cities and villages on the coast by ferries and express boats. Tickets can be purchased before departure at the ticket office of the terminals or on the website of one of the ferry companies (discounts up to 20% are provided for early booking). It is worth noting that ferries provide an opportunity for auto travelers to take a car with them on board. If you wish, you can sail on a paddle steamer on Lake Mjosa, and on a Gjende boat you can take a trip to the Jotunheimen mountains.
- Trains: Each traveler can buy standard (refundable) or Minipris (cheap, non-refundable) tickets at the train station from the machine or online on the website. Traveling on the trains is very convenient - they are well equipped, including electrical outlets (this makes it possible to use a laptop and other equipment) and free Wi-Fi.
Taxi
Taxi services are quite expensive - cars run only within the city. You can call a taxi by phone, catch it on the street or find it at special parking lots. If the driver wants to add someone during your trip, he can only do this with your consent (you have the right to refuse to travel with other passengers).
Car rent
To rent a car, you need to have an IDL and a credit card, as well as pay for insurance. Depending on the rental company, special requirements are imposed on drivers - their age must be at least 19-25 years old. Important: you need to drive a car with permanently on headlights (low beam). It should be noted that tourists are not recommended to travel around the country in a rented car in winter, since many mountain sections of roads are often closed. As for parking, on weekdays on city streets, they are usually paid. Having received a parking ticket, paid for in a P-machine, it must be placed under the windshield.
The roads in Norway are very good, so traveling around the country will give you a lot of pleasure.
