The capital of Norway, Oslo, is truly unique. Despite the fact that the history of the city goes back many centuries, most of the buildings of the capital were built relatively recently, and the hills are interspersed with forests and islands. Geographically, Oslo also occupies four dozen islands, each of which is beautiful in its own way.

What is worth seeing?

  • There are many interesting places, but let's start with Christiania Square. It is also known under a different name - Market Square, which it wore until 1958, when it was decided to rename it. Now it bears the name of the founders of the city - King Christian IV. He was personally involved in the design of the city. It was the king who forbade the construction of wooden houses in the capital, so Oslo never burned out. Pay attention, walking along the streets of the capital, they all have exceptionally straight lines. The city also owes this feature to its founder. The fountain in the form of a royal glove, installed on the square back in 97 of the last century, looks especially interesting.
  • Be sure to look at the Skrepka monument. The fact is that it was invented in Norway. And Johan Wohler thought of bending it in this way in order to hold several pieces of paper at the same time, Johan Wohler in 1899. The paper clip in Norway was used for its intended purpose until the beginning of World War II, and then became the hallmark of the underground. The Nazis who came to power in the 40th year completely banned all attributes (including buttons) containing a reminder of Haakon VII, the former king of the country. It was the clip that reminded the inhabitants of the country of the initials of the king, and therefore they began to wear it on the lapels of jackets, pockets and collars of shirts.
  • Oskarshall Castle served as the residence of the reigning monarch Oscar I in the middle of the 19th century. The castle is located on a slope and offers stunning views of the sea from its windows. The neo-Gothic castle was designed by Johan Nebelog. He also completely designed the interior of the palace, furniture sketches. The park surrounding the castle is also his work. In 2009, Oskarshall was completely renovated. And now, while walking through its halls, you can see how the kings of Norway lived.
  • Oslomarka forest is geographically located within the capital. Here you can go skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer. You can get here by any type of public transport, so the park area is very popular among residents of the capital and visiting tourists. Quite surprisingly, wild animals live in the forest. Here you can see beavers, lynx, roe deer and even elk.
