The capital of Belarus is a cozy and clean city where you can spend a wonderful weekend or a short vacation. Having gone to Minsk for 2 days, you can have time to see fountains and temples, stroll through shady parks and beautiful squares, enjoy the best dishes of the national Belarusian cuisine and indulge in inexpensive shopping in shopping centers.

Holy places

Fans of old architecture may be somewhat disappointed: the capital of Belarus was badly damaged during the last war, and therefore many old buildings were destroyed. The former splendor remains the Cathedral of Minsk, which was founded in the first half of the 17th century. The temple was founded in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirit and today serves as the main cathedral of the capital. Its main shrine is the icon of the Mother of God, which was acquired in 1500 and since then is considered a miraculous image.

Another temple of Minsk especially revered by believers is the Church of St. Mary Magdalene Equal to the Apostles. Built in the middle of the 19th century with donations from the townspeople, the temple is famous for its relics. Under its vaults are kept miraculously the myrrh-streaming image of St. Nicholas and a particle of the relics of Mary Magdalene.

City fountains

Once in summer Minsk, in 2 days you can visit most of its fountains, the total number of which reaches sixty. The oldest and most famous is "Boy with a Swan". It was solemnly opened in the 70s of the XIX century in honor of the launch of the city water supply system with artesian water. The sculpture of the boy is installed in Aleksandrovsky Square, where Minsk residents love to walk with children, make dates and meet with friends on weekends.

There are also record-breaking fountains in Minsk. For example, the fountain on Oktyabrskaya Square, where the Palace of the Republic is located, has more than 1,300 jets, and the height of the fountain on Filimonova Street reaches two dozen meters. The square in front of the Minsk Sports Palace is decorated with "singing fountains", and the "Geese" near the Komarovsky market most often received the title of the best fountain in the capital of Belarus.

1000 dishes for every taste

They say that Belarusians can cook just so many different types of food from ordinary potatoes. It is hardly possible to make sure of this in Minsk in 2 days, but trying a couple of dozen dishes is a very real task. You can taste potato pancakes, dumplings, sorcerers or potato casserole with meat, mushrooms and various gravies in any cafe or restaurant. The status of the establishment will not significantly affect the taste of the served culinary masterpieces.
