Tourist season in Sri Lanka
- Spring: March will delight you with wonderful sunny weather, and if it rains at this time, it is usually at night, so it will not interfere with daytime swimming. Less rainfall at this time of the year falls in the central regions of the island, for example, in the province of Kandy. In May, the rainy season starts in the southwest, while in the northeast, rains do not penetrate at all due to the mountainous terrain. But in general, warm weather prevails in spring (+ 27-30 degrees).
- Summer: in the southern and western regions of the island, it rains almost every day, as a rule, at night, and during the day the air warms up to + 30-32 degrees, but swimming will not always be possible due to large waves and strong winds. The east of the island is sunny and dry at this time of the year.
- Autumn: At this time of year, rain in the northeast is not uncommon, while it is practically bypassed in the southwest.
- Winter: a favorable time to visit Sri Lanka is December-February (the air warms up to + 28-29 degrees). It is worth noting that February is the driest month in Colombo and other southeastern cities, as well as the central regions of the island. In winter, excellent conditions are created for swimming in the ocean, but in the evening it is advisable to use repellents, since mosquitoes are activated at this time of day.

You can spend time on the Sri Lankan beaches all year round (in summer the water warms up to +28, and in winter - up to + 26-27 degrees), but for this purpose it is advisable to go here in December-April (sunny calm weather and minimum rainfall). The best Sri Lankan beaches: the beaches of Bentota (romantic getaway), Unawatuna (rest with children), Mirissa (passive beach rest).
Windsurfing
You should go windsurfing to the east and north-east coast of the island in May-October, and to the south-west coast in November-April. It is advisable for beginners to take a closer look at the surf spots of Kaluntar and Bentota, and for professional surfers - to the beaches of Nilaveli, Arugam Bay and Hikkaduwu.
Fishing
The southern and southwestern regions of the island await fishermen in October-April, and the northern and northeastern regions in May-September.
Going fishing, in local waters you can meet such exotic fish as Spanish mackerel, marlin, big gourami (in a specialized company they will organize deep-sea ocean fishing for you on motor boats). If you do not have sufficient funds to contact a special company, you can go on a river fishing, asking for help from local residents (for an additional, but insignificant fee).
